"A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2014."

Harrison: Birthday boy this week, 6 years old! We look forward to watching you learn and grow over the next year.
Amelie: You chose to be Hello Kitty and sat surprisingly still while Mummy painted your face!
Finley: Who's a clever boy then! 6 months old this week and you've learnt to sit up all by yourself!

We've been enjoying the last week of school holidays with lazy mornings, playdates and arts and crafts.  It's so nice not working our day around the school bell!
A lovely day spent celebrating Harrison's birthday with a visit to a Lego exhibition, he was in his element!

"A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2014."

Harrison: Keeping a cool head in the Sydney heat
Amelie: Shadow play with the balloon that the lady from the party shop gave you when you fell over and hurt your ear
Finley: Bubba you've found your fingers! They are a common sight in your mouth, soothing as those two new teeth continue to come through.  I love it how you can still smile at me with them in there

Sad farewells as we left New Zealand after a lovely visit back home but nice to sleep in our own beds again and get the kids back into their sleeping routines.  A busy week settling back into life in Sydney and doing all the prep for the birthday party on the weekend.  'The Octonauts' party was a huge hit with the birthday boy.

"A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2014."

Harrison: Our big boy, I can't believe you'll be six years old in a couple of weeks!
Amelie: A morning play in the dunes at Whangamata
Finley: You look so much like Mummy when I was a baby in this photo

Holiday fun spent at Nana & Poppa's bach in Whangamata this week.
A full house & craziness with all the family in one house but we wouldn't have had it any other way! Special times as it was our first holiday together in many years and a great time to re-connect and for cousins to bond.
Good company, good food & good times!

"A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2014."

Harrison: You love the water so much, we're so proud of you with how your swimming has improved over the last year
Amelie: Our cheeky girl, wearing my old pearl necklace from when I was a little girl, a special find at Grandma & Grandad's house
Finley: Look at those legs! Your toes touching the sand for the very first time, you loved moving your toes around feeling the texture of the sand

Our time back in New Zealand over the Christmas period has been very special seeing family and friends and enjoying a summer holiday together.  Our children just LOVE the beach and so do we!
A lot of 'first time's' for Finley...first Christmas, first time touching the sand, first tooth!, first time at Nana & Poppa's bach and first jump on a trampoline!

THE 52 PROJECT

You’ll often find me with my camera in hand, photography is my passion, capturing both the everyday and special moments of my family.  I am forever framing in my mind the things I see and thinking that would make the perfect photo!

Life is so busy and the children are growing up way too quickly.

I recently read a saying by Gretchen Rubin,
'the days are long but the years are short'
I think this sums up our life at the moment with a young family, therefore all the more reason to capture my family's memories in photos for me to cherish in years to come.

I've been inspired by Jodi from Practicing Simplicity who hosts a project called 'The 52 Project'

I will be taking part in the project and documenting each of my children with a portrait a week, every week in 2014.

THE BEGINNING

Welcome to my blog!

'Three Little Dickie Birds' is a place for me to share my passions in life: my family, photography, crafting and cooking.

I'm a descendant from the Dickie family and thought it was appropriate to name the blog after the loves of my life - my children (my three little Dickie birds!)

noun 1. dicky-bird - small bird; adults talking to children sometimes use these words to refer to small birds.

Join me on our adventures as a family whilst living abroad in Sydney, Australia.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy the posts.  Please feel free to comment and let me know your thoughts.

Happy New Year!
